Like at home, that’s the first impression we get as we set foot in Wisma Soedjono Tetebatu in East Lombok District. Cool breeze and singing birds, as if to say welcome to anyone who come to visit.

Once you are inside the Wisma area, you will not find the usual atmosphere like in any other hotel or similar facilities. The gate made of a bamboo bar that provides you impression of simplicity.

However, different impression will struck as you get into the Front Office, the old buildings from the colonial period stood stately, distinctive European architecture looks very elegant in the middle of the green environment.

Inside it a complete set and well maintained charters and important papers issued by the Dutch government for the dr. Soedjono during his career as a doctor.

History:
To be able to enjoy your visit to Wisma Soedjono better, we should look back at the history of this beautiful place.

Dr. Soedjono (1879-1944) was born to a nobleman in Java, he spent his childhood at Riau on the island of Sumatra. Nobility status provides him opportunities to attend STOVIA (School Tot Atleiding Voor Inlandse), a special school educating young doctor candidate from the indigenous, graduated from school and was awarded a Doctor at the age of 21 years old. As a young doctor, he began his medical career at the Government Office and assigned in a row to Kediri Central Java, Madiun East Java, and then by the Dutch colonial government sent to the island of Bali and Lombok in the effort to combat outbreaks of cholera, drawn back to the island of Java, namely to Magetan for two years and then sent back to Bali and again Lombok, where he eventually decided to settle down.

One very real evidence of his dedication for the people of Lombok is the establishment of a small hospital in the City of Selong East Lombok called dr. Soedjono Hospital. He received several awards both during his lifetime and after he passed away. Final award in the year 2008 came from the Indonesian Doctors Association for his dedication to the community of East Lombok. Currently, 3rd generation of Soedjono -though no one works as a doctor-still live there and take care of all the legacy full heartedly, fostering some less fortunate children and schooled them according to their talents, reforestation, mobilize the community to build an alternative electricity resource, and continues to provide another positive contribution to society.

Main House:
An old house with a magnificent architecture stands in the middle of Wisma location. This house was built by dr. Soedjono the years around 1930 as a vacation home year after his retirement. Located at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level, this location is ideal to realize hobby in farming. Today, this house is still used as a residence by the Soedjono family. The family is also willing to provide an opportunity for guests who are interested in knowing more about this house historical background. The front room is used as the Front Office as well as an exhibition space for the historical evidence of Wisma Soedjono.

Rooms:
“We do not sell facilities” said Raden Neni, 3rd daughter of dr. Soedjono`s first son. At the very beginning, they built some additional rooms intended to accommodate family guests coming especially from abroad.

In its development, not only friends of the family are visiting, also tourists from different countries who are interested in knowing more about the history of this place. Along with the development of tourism, later in 1980, Wisma Soedjono introduced itself as one of the alternative accommodation facilities in East Lombok. Unlike any other hotel or similar services, Wisma Soedjono provides several very modest rooms.

Our restaurant offers a wide variety of food, both from outside and within the country, including the local cuisine. One of the local cuisines famous to foreign countries is diverse types of Curry and Opor. Not surprisingly, various kinds of herbs and medicinal plants flourishing in the family garden, including curry leaves which gives the Curry a very special flavor. Organic ingredients from the family garden, the cook who has years of cooking experience, and traditional cooking techniques with the wood fuel makes our cuisine an unforgettable choice.

Tetebatu is located on the south slope of Gunung Rinjani, 11km north of the main road that runs east-west across the center of the island. Tetebatu’s elevation is 400m, about half that of Sanda / Pupuan. Views are wonderful and Tetebatu’s local scene very peaceful with rice and tobacco being farmed. Temperatures are cool and cloud will often cover the sky providing relief from the intense tropical sun.

Just four rooms here, all in a traditional lumbung ricebarn style. Lovely views out over rice paddies and all-in-all, a really charming little place. Has a reasonable enough cafe attached. The owner speaks good English and is really knowledgable about local culture and sights.
